Lindel Salow (Charles Babbage) has appeared in numerous productions throughout the Metro Detroit Area. This is his fourth appearance with Open Book Theatre, his previous shows being Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, Picasso at the Lapin Agile and Bauer. Other theatres include: The JET, Performance Network, AKT Theatre, Puzzle Piece Theatre and the Attic Theatre. Outside of the theatre, Lindel spends his time restoring vintage fans and clocks and also works as a freelance make-up artist! He resides in Dearborn with his wonderful spouse, Chuck, who is a constant source of love, laughter and unwavering support.
Kez Settle (Anabella Byron) is thrilled to return to Open Book Theatre after last appearing as Mrs. Bumbrake/Teacher in the Wilde Award nominated production of Peter and the Starcatcher. Kez has appeared in many productions around Southeast Michigan and her most recent roles include Marlafaye in Savannah Sipping Society at The DIO and her Wilde Award nominated performance as Annie in Kayak (Matrix Theatre Company). She is a graduate of The School at Steppenwolf. Chase your dreams. It’s good cardio.
Joshua R Brown (Lord William Lovelace) takes the Open Book Theatre stage for the sixth time. He previously appeared in Be A Good Little Widow as Craig, Life Sucks as Vanya, Kimberly Akimbo as Buddy, Who Am I This Time as Tom Newton and Picasso at the Lapin Agile as Freddie. Joshua has also been seen recently in The Matrix Theatre Company production of Dream Deferred: Detroit ’67, The DIO production of Murder at the Howard Johnson’s, and Monster Box Theatre production of Coastal Disturbances. He also worked for Two Muses Theatre, Planet Ant Theatre and Tipping Point Theatre. Joshua can also be seen in the ANAWIM Productions motion picture directed by Jasmine Rivera, “American Prophet” as Paul Ewell. Joshua would like to thank his wife Staci, his parents Bob and Wendy, and his friends for their continued love and support.
Cynthia Szczesny (Mary Sommerville) s happy to return to the Open Book stage after making her on-stage debut in last season’s production of Emilie (Madame). She has continued her off stage support and help since the spring of 2016 with Calypso’s Corner. She has worked with Purple Rose Theatre Company, Williamston Theatre – Darknights at Billtown, Water Works Theatre Company, Performance Network, Schoolcraft College, UDM and UDM/Summer Classic Program. She most recently worked with the Roustabout Theatre Troupe and the Route 23 Music & Arts Festival. Thanks to Krista and this terrific cast and crew! Matthew Wallace (Lord Byron) is so excited to be back at the wonderful Open Book Theatre. You may have seen him previously in Emilie. He studied Theatre Arts at Eastern Michigan University and has had a passion for the stage from a very young age. Some of his favorite credits include Forever Plaid (Smudge) and Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol (Jacob Marley) both at The Dio Theatre, Oliver! (Bill Sikes) and The Nerd (Axel) at The Riverbank, The Rocky Horror Show (Brad) at The Ringwald, as well as The Last 5 Years (Jamie), Little Shop of Horrors (The Dentist) and Macbeth (Macduff) at Eastern Michigan University. When Matthew isn’t busy acting he is a barista at Starbucks, as well as an avid hiker and tea drinker. JEG.
Krista Schafer Ewbank (Director/Producer) is the founding Artistic Director of Open Book. This is the fifth show she’s directed at OBTC, and she has appeared on stage 9 times. She recently received the Wilde Award for her performance in last season’s Emilie, and was previously nominated for her performance in Boy Gets Girl as well as for her direction of Peter and the Starcatcher. A native Michigander, Krista holds a degree in theatre from Northwestern University and has worked in theatres across the country. She is the drama director for Grosse Ile High School and the Grosse Ile Boar’s Head Festival. Krista is grateful for her husband Sean, daughter Abby and Stouffer’s frozen dinners: without which none of this would be possible. Krista will be back on stage this season in Wonder of the World and Fool for Love.
Danielle Gilbert (Stage Manager) is thrilled to be working on another show with Open Book! She started stage managing with us in the last show of our second season, Calypso’s Corner, and has been a part of every show since. Most recently she tried her hand at house managing both Emilie and Time Stands Still, and really enjoyed the challenge! She would like to thank her Mom and Dad, for coming to every show and always supporting her future, whatever it may change to, her best friend of 8 years, Jordan, for sticking around through it all, and Kevin, for his unwavering support in her passions even when those passions lead to a schedule that’s hard to work around.
Harley Miah (Lighting Designer) is a professional in the entertainment technology industry. He is a freelance lighting programmer for a large number of nightclubs, concerts and festivals across the country, and the chief lighting designer for IKO Global Productions. Harley is the resident lighting designer for Open Book and the Outvisible Theatre Company in Allen Park, as well as at Northville High School where he teaches students how to design lights. He has designed the lights for all of Open Book’s first four years, and designed sound for Boy Gets Girl in 2017. He earned a Wilde Award for Best Design – Lights for his work on Red in 2015. When not working in the theater, Harley spends his time painting, building Lego stages, loitering in museums, and seeing as many shows as he can in this great theatre community we have in Southeast Michigan. He hopes you do the same.
Cheryl Zemke (Costume Designer) is an award-winning fashion designer and owner of C. Creations Custom Sewing & Design. This is her fourth show with Open Book: she designed the costumes for Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, Emilie and Picasso at the Lapin Agile. She loves working alongside directors and actors to help develop characters. Cheryl has her own garment label, C3, and sells her designs at shows and by private appointment, as well as provides custom fashion design and alterations (follow her on Facebook @c3fashions or www.cherylzemke.webs.com). Cheryl produces her own runway shows and participates in area shows like Fashion Massacre, Fashion in Detroit, Michigan Fashion Week, and RAINN. She was featured as one of the top Detroit area designers in the DIA: Samurai Beyond the Armor challenge. Awards include 2016 Best of Show and Judge’s Choice Stand Up Fashion Show, 3rd place Runway Repurposed, and 5 awards from the American Sewing Expo (2009-2012) Passion for Fashion.
